Birds
Cut paper and acrylic ink. 18x24
Birthday present for my dad. He saw me working on the owl’s head, and remarked that he liked it. Decided to finish it up and send it to him. The tree is one piece of card stock, the owl is a single sheet of rice paper, and the background is painted with acrylic ink.

Inspired by my good friend's first novel. Three layers of glass hold the components.
Cut paper and acrylic ink. Based on my friend's first novel, this is another try at the same composition because I liked it. Whereas the first one used negative space and all birds, this piece uses all sorts of symbols from the book in positive space. The underlay of leaves is cut from a single sheet of paper with a painted sheet of paper over it. Three layers of glass hold the components.

Hand-cut paper and acrylic paint. 18x24
The title is a reference to the overuse of eagles as symbols rather than just appreciating them as beautiful, wild animals. Funny story: I explained the title to my dad. He said, “I get that…but the eagle does symbolize freedom.”
