Barred OwlCut paper and acrylic ink. 18x24Birthday present for my dad. He saw me working on the owl’s head, and remarked that he liked it. Decided to finish it up and send it to him. Safe As HousesHand-cut books. My take on the 2008 housing crisis. The books are stacked in chronological order from bottom to top, balancing the house on its roof peak. “Safe as houses” is a British phrase from the 1800s after a stock market crash that led investors to plow money into real estate (because it was considered safe) only to have housing bubble and burst.

The underlay of leaves is cut from a single sheet of paper with a painted sheet of paper over it. Three layers of glass hold the components.
